Image Atlantic Biologicals has entered into a strategic alliance with North Carolina based Unit Dose Solutions Inc. The collaboration will enhance the capabilities of both companies to provide safe, fast and reliable pharmaceutical packaging services throughout the country.

Since its inception in 1998, Atlantic Biologicals a Miami-based company has grown into one of the premier specialty pharmaceutical distribution companies in the country. Unit Dose Solutions has developed a state-of-the-art single-dose pharmaceutical packing plant in Morrisville, N.C. “We will combine the expertise of Unit Dose Solutions in unit dose packaging with the stellar customer service that our clients have come to expect,” said Karen L. Moody, President of Atlantic Biologicals.“This is a strategic alliance combining one of our valuable vendors and our future direction as far as unit dosing is concerned.”

As part of a total financial restructuring of Unit Dose Solutions, Inc., the company filed a Chapter 11 petition and obtained authority from the court to allow Atlantic Biologicals to provide post-petition financing and management support services on an interim basis. The formal plan of reorganization is expected to be finalized and filed within the next 30 days. In the meantime, Atlantic Biologicals has begun working with existing UDS management and staff to increase production and order fulfillment time in the North Carolina facility.

Through its management of Unit Dose Solutions, Atlantic Biologicals will offer a full line of unit dose packaging services that includes specialized bar coding, over wrap bagging, punch and bingo cards, liquid products for RX, OTC and controlled medications.

The management expertise and industry knowledge that Atlantic Biologicals brings to this alliance will allow for increased production and quality in North Carolina plant. Repackaging capabilities have already increased with additional machinery and staff and product turnaround time has improved dramatically.

With the support of Atlantic Biologicals, we are extremely excited that we now have the opportunity to re-focus our staff’s energy on turnaround time and quality of service,” says Tim Boyd, Unit Dose Solutions Chief Operating Officer. “The model has been in place but now we will have the opportunity to implement it and maximize our capabilities.”

Part of the future growth plan includes expanding Unit Dose Solutions’ packing facilities into different regions, similar to what Atlantic Biologicals has done with its distribution centers. Atlantic Biologicals has signed an agreement to open a unit dose packing facility located in the 33,000 square foot facility in Miami Gardens, FL. The facility will be operational in the next 30 to 60 days to service the needs of Florida’s healthcare providers.

Atlantic Biologicals is the premier wholesale distributor of plasma derivatives, generic and brand name pharmaceuticals as well as medical supplies and diagnostic products.
